Alachua

March 23, 2012

We left Lake Waldena at noon as Paul and Carol's 'Circle of Friends' camping group began arriving. They learned last night that the start date for their home was moved up and they will meet on Saturday for final design decisions and make their downpayment. The house should be done in 70 days but they suspect it may be sooner.
We arrived at Travelers Campground in Alachua just north of Gainesville, set up and drove north about 6 miles to O'Leno State Park where the Santa Fe River goes underground and resurfaces 3 miles later at River Rise State Park on its way to the Suwannee River. There was lightning in the area so we didn't walk much but did enjoy the beauty, the nature and the history. On the way back it started pouring so we stopped at the trailer to close the windows just before the rain hit. After a long downpour the sun came out and we headed to Gainesville just to tour the countryside. We drove around the town of Alachua when we came back and were impressed with the quaint downtown historic district and the many classic historic 'Florida' homes.
