Ellie's Weekend

June 5, 2011

This was Ellie's birthday weekend and she wanted to go to New York and see the Statue of Liberty and we were happy to oblige her. We got up early Saturday and picked her up at 6 on the way. We arrived at Liberty State Park in NJ, through security and on the ferry at about 8:30. This is the first security screening for me since my hip replacement and, yes, I set off the alarm. We stopped first at Ellis Island and were happy to see Miss Ellie so interested in the history. The next stop was Liberty Island where we visited the museum and walked up to the top of the pedestal. (Visits to the crown have to be reserved way in advance.) We then walked around the grounds and caught the ferry back to NJ. We drove a couple of exits to Jersey City and had lunch at the Newport mall (had to pay for parking). We then caught the PATH train to 33rd St. and walked up Broadway to Herald Square and Times Square where we visited ToysRus and the Hershey store. Then it was up to Rockefeller Center. From there we took the subway back to 33rd St. and caught the PATH back to the car at Newport. We got caught in construction (45 mins to go the first 2 miles) but then we made good time getting back home by 8 even with a stop at McDonald's for dinner. Today was donuts and a sushi lunch before Mike, Lisa and Annika came over to pick her up. Alesa and I had golfed 18 at Ingleside on Thursday and, even though we had a cart, there was a lot of walking on a very hilly course since much of the area around the greens were off limits for carts. That together with all the walking in NYC had both Alesa and I limping at the end of the day. It may be time to slow down the Crawford travel style. We slept very well last night and Alesa went to bed before 5 this evening.
