The Great Smoky Mountains

March 29, 2012

Last night we visited with a couple from Liverpool, Dave and Joan, who have a son living in Viet Nam and a daughter living in Australia. They have a condo in Sarasota and were storing their trailer in the Chattanooga area before heading home. Very interesting and international
We drove through Knoxville to Sevierville, TN (Dolly Parton's hometown) and are camping on the Little Pigeon River. We drove through Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg into the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Let's just say that God had a great day when he created those mountains. It was more than good enough to forgive him for the 20 miles of wall to wall tourist traps betwen here and there. Everything from helicopter rides, zip lines and miniature golf to wax museums, amusement parks and the Titanic. We were especially upset to have to pass on the "Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show" as well as the moonshine tasting tour. We did shop at the Lodge factory outlet and bought some cast iron 'stuff'. We had a good workout hiking a half mile trail with a 300 foot rise up to the observation tower on Clingman's Dome.
