Medals, donuts and Butter Boy

April 2, 2018

Alesa was watching a baking show the other day and they were baking donuts and they looked pretty good. So, on a trip to Michaels to buy Alesa's supplies for her watercoloring class we bought a donut baking pan. Alesa made a batter and baked some donuts and I had found a recipe for raised donuts to be fried in oil and I made those but cooked them in the air fryer. Both types were good, a little more like cake donuts but still light and airy. Governor Scott was going to be in town last month to present service medals to veterans but the school shooting in near Miami took precedence and it was rescheduled for this afternoon. It was an impressive ceremony and he individually presented the service medal to each veteran. There were a few speeches at the beginning and he, a Navy veteran, spoke of what he was doing to keep Florida the most 'Veteran friendly' state in the country. Sat next to another veteran who was also an Army helicopter pilot and an instructor pilot at Fort Rucker. We had a grand time swapping stories and sharing common experiences. Beforehand Alesa and I played a little platform tennis. She is playing a lot less and taking it easy while she is in therapy for her back and getting ready for her knee scoping at the end of the month. Craig and Janet were over for pickleball and brunch on Saturday and we had Paul and Carol over for lunch on Easter as well as a few neighbors for dessert and drinks that evening. AND, it's that time of the year and the Butterboy is back in action.
