Respect the Lake

July 28, 2011

It has been over 15 years since someone has drowned at the peninsula but there have been two in the last two days. A 7 year old boy in the waves on beach 2 after the park was closed and a 27 year old man after going for a swim off a sailboat by the North Pier off beach 11. Be careful when you are trying to beat the summer heat. Last night was very busy with many rescue vehicles and personnel on the pier, numerous recovery boats and a Coast Guard helicopter searching. Monday we picked up my sister Marilyn to get a TV, a wall mount and a ceiling fan. It was all installed until the fan started slipping due to stripped threads in the fiberglass junction box. I went back the next day with oversized screws and now everything is firmly installed and she is happy. Yesterday we golfed 18 at Lakeside and followed a slow fivesome on the front nine and groups of learning Boy Scouts to start the back nine. They were too slow so we went to Meeder's for lunch then visited with Mary and Janet before she returns to Naples next week. When we resumed the back nine Alesa ran into an old classmate who said there were other classmates coming to town later in the week. So we will be attending a mini reunion at Meeder's on Friday. Good thing I like to eat.
