Sedona and home

August 13, 2025

I woke up a little before three and went across the street to a parking lot and away from the motel lights. The clouds had cleared but the moon was very bright which made all but the brightest stars hard to see. I walked back through our room to our patio and over to the public area where Alesa joined me and we both laid in chaise lounges and peered at the sky. The moon was bright and obscured most of the sky but even as more stars but no meteors appeared we decided it was time for bed. No problem going back to sleep and we both showered in the morning before heading to Sedonuts, the last goal of our visit. It did not disappoint. We both ordered a couple of huge donuts and coffee and I bought a tee shirt and a mug before we decided to bag the donuts and cap the coffees and head to ‘The Coffee Pot’ for breakfast. After breakfast we checked out of the Inn and decided to head home. But first, another attempt to visit the Airport Mesa Vortex. Parking was full as we drove by to the airport to take pictures of the view. On the way back down the parking had opened up so we parked, changed shoes and started the climb. It was a winding rock step climb which required a cable ‘railing’ to help with the last 20 yards or so. The view was worth the trek but the wind was surprising so we had to hang on to our hats. My finger showed up on a few of the pictures as I wrestled with the wind. The Vortex didn’t seem to provide any extra energy either physical or metaphysical. The descent was easier although I did teeter once which prompted Ales to ask where was the nearest hospital. I said, “Don’t worry, the helicopter will get us there!” We stopped at a Pilot for gas on the way home because what’s a road trip without a stop at a Pilot/Flying J, a habit we picked up during our RV days. We also stopped at a rest stop to check out the view. While we did not fulfill all of our goals the trip was a tremendous success and we will soon start to plan another one as we eat our donuts and drink our coffee..
