New Shade
Even with the record heat we have been keeping busy and active by walking, biking and going to the gym. Alesa has decided we need more shade in the back yard so we have been visiting nurseries and walking around them to get some ideas. We have turned the irrigation times up to compensate for the heat and that identified some new leaks. A couple were easy since I could stand in the pool and dig and they were easy to find and repair. The last leak was pretty heavy and behind the waterfall. I started digging where the water was coming out but, following the leak went farther and deeper away from the starting point. I ended up doing a little each day as time and heat allowed. As I was digging, Alesa was sifting the rocks from the dirt so when we reburied we could bury in dirt and put the rocks on top, as it should be. The water seemed to be seeping next to the roots so as I dug I was also uncovering roots which did not make Alesa happy. I tried to do as little damage to the roots as possible and tried to cover them so they would not dry out. She noted that those trees seemed the healthiest probably because they got so much water. After a week or two of digging four feet or so into the hill, I discovered a tube without a dripper cap which was putting a lot of water in a small area. After capping or putting new drippers on all the uncovered tubing, we were able to rebury it all and put the rocks on the top. (RIP) Our baby, Jeff, turned 52 on the first so we took him and the family (less Bailey) to celebrate. As far as the shade in the backyard is concerned, we bought a double umbrella and put it up over the loveseat and it seem to be doing the job. Although we will be moving it and the seating around to find the best coverage. Since we are settled in nicely in our new neighborhood we are attending more of the neighborhood (Trilogy) activities. Last week we attended a coffee meet and greet session with the new manager and a whole lot of issues were discussed. This week we will be attending a session with JJ Spahn's parents as they live in Trilogy and we are getting ready for an overnight trip to Sedona.
