Bryce Canyon National Park
The primary purpose of this trip from Jeff's was here at Bryce Canyon. Alesa is a Tony Hillerman fan and has always wanted to see the red hoodoos and the park did not disappoint. Tony Hillerman wrote novels set in this area of the Navajos and she enjoys visiting the areas accurately described and staged in his novels. After stopping at the visitors center for some shopping we drove to the lodge (which is closed for the winter) and walked up a short path to the canyon overview and as the canyon opened before us we were both truly awed. We attended a lecture by a geologist at Sunset Point and it was excellent, and a highpoint of our day as she did an excellent job explaining the formation of the hoodoos. It is a shame that the vivid red color of the hoodoos is not captured in the photos. We then drove to most of the overlooks. An awesome day. We were planning to drive up to Arches National park but decided we have seen enough so we drove to Page, Arizona and after a short visit to the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell we will head back to Jeff's to get ready for Thanksgiving. Alesa bought a squirrel cookie cutter and can't wait to use it.
