Golf and Garden

February 25, 2026

Two weeks until we don't set the clocks ahead and spring is coming. Temperature will hit 89 today after a few evenings last week when it reached the high 30/low 40s. We even covered our garden just to be safe. We bought a small, raised bed and planted a couple of tomato plants and a few radish seeds. The tomato plants now have 2 blossoms each and the radishes are sprouting nicely. We joined the Trilogy Fun Savors club recently and attended the meeting this month. They have over 500 members and organize a lot of fun activities and trips. We enjoyed their barbecue last month but have not signed up for a trip yet. I know I am going to like this club because they have donuts at the meetings. Took Jeff and Bailey golfing last Saturday and had a great time. Afterwards Alesa had Jeff, Dani, Bailey and Nicki over for a gumbo dinner which was excellent. Jeff had a friend, one-armed Rob, join us as fourth and he was an excellent golfer (8 handicap) even with one arm. He was born with his left arm ending above the elbow. He was fun to golf with and has a good sense of humor. He says he only likes to go to the driving range when there is a pretty girl there. Then the guys will watch her rather than stare at him hitting with one arm. It was a beautiful day and quite comfortable, but I did find 18 holes a little much but did pretty well. Our cardiologist and Alesa's ENT have offices on the 4th floor with an attached parking ramp, so I usually take the opportunity to enjoy the unobstructed views in all directions. We finally finalized our flights for the August Viking cruise in the British Isles. We will fly out of Phoenix but return to Philadelphia on September 1st for a visit with Mike, the girls and friends. May also include a stop in Erie. Now we just have to plan the trip back home. Currently investigating flying, train or even renting a car. Last month Alesa planted flowers in the front yard and in the past the rabbits have quickly eaten them down to ground level. This time we built a protective fence around them and reinforced it with some old screening and, so far, the plants have survived. There is even a rabbit or two living under the rosemary bush just outside the new fence.
Political Note: Didn't watch the SOTU address last night because I have heard more than enough lies and exaggerations. Also, I like my USA neat, no ICE.
