Things have been quiet and it has cooled off a bit with some rain. The campground is full for the weekend and about a quarter full for the weekdays. Tuesday we rode the bikes out past Peninsula drive and payed our respects to family at the cemeteries.
Trip Log
We have gone out to the peninsula three days in a row during 'Discover Presque Isle'. The second day we rode our bikes for a full lap of the bike trail, metal detected on beach 8 and walked through the vendor tents.
Yesterday we went back to the Zoo for a quiet walk around the park and a chance to see the newborn Red Panda but they remained in the cubbing box.
It has been over 15 years since someone has drowned at the peninsula but there have been two in the last two days. A 7 year old boy in the waves on beach 2 after the park was closed and a 27 year old man after going for a swim off a sailboat by the North Pier off beach 11.
The heat has been pretty much slowing us down. We continue to be active, just not as fast. We built a 'sifter' from hardware cloth and went to beach 1 for some metal detecting. We did find a nice Irish ring and a lot of trash.
Saturday we went to Browns for Ryan's Birthday party. He came home from Pittsburgh. Otherwise we continued to recuperate by watching the mass exodus out of the campground on Sunday. We had even used four overflow spots.
Today Mike and Jeff and their families returned home and all have arrived safely. Alesa and I spent the day resting and getting things set up for the rest of the summer. Yesterday the kids spent some time here and Jeff and I went for a motorcycle ride to Ripley and back.
We are starting to slow down. Monday the kids were off with their families and yesterday Janet, Becca, baby Lola and all the family went to the zoo to visit as Becca and Lola were flying back to Omaha this morning. After the zoo we all went to Georges for a late lunch.
Sunday is the last day of this year's Camp NanaPapa. We went shopping this morning for the food for the closing ceremony this evening. You may have noticed that we did a lot of shopping during camp because the refrigerator in the camper is relatively small and we can't stock up.
Saturday turned into a very quiet day, the kids didn't even ride their bikes. Aunt Janet, her daughter Rebecca and her daughter Lola came to camp for a visit. Jeff and Danielle arrived this afternoon and Bailey and Bridget spent the night with them at Uncle Bob and Aunt Cathy's.
